Couples’ League

Couples League

FRIDAY’S 4:00- 6:30 PM MAY – AUGUST

Welcome to the Ely Couples League

The Ely Golf Club Couples League plays on Friday nights at 4:00 pm. The League has been around for a number of years and the main goal is to enjoy a fun round of golf with your partner and other couples and a meal after the round. It is a fun league to play in and the competition is friendly.

The Ely Golf Club Couples League is comprised of couples who play each week against other couples.  There is no commitment to play every week.

The format is a Scotchball format and 4 p.m. shotgun start, with players hitting alternate shots to complete the score for a hole. Both players hit their drives and the preferred shot is selected and the person who did not hit the preferred drive hits the second shot with alternating shots until the putt is sunk. We have experimented with various “gimme” distances near the cup.

Tee Time is 4:00 pm each Friday from about Memorial Day to Labor Day. Informal play usually begins in mid-May until early October.   Couples must register in the club house by 3:45 p.m. for pairings.  Pairings are determined based upon who shows up for the date, typically with two couples per tee box. Handicaps are established after two or three weeks and low net scores are used to determine the best scores of the week. Other recognition goes to longest putt on green number three, closest male shot to the pin on green number four, and closest female shot to the pin on green number seven, and birdies on any hole.

Even more important than the golf is the meal served each week by two or three of the couples who sign up to serve in advance. Meal fees are $10 per person. After the meal, we have a raffle for various items brought in by league members. During the social period, we also recognize birthdays, anniversaries, family events, and other fun information. Proceeds beyond costs have provided significant funding to the Golf Club. (cart path paving, 2010 fund raiser to assist the club, and the alarm system)

Dues are $30 per couple.

We invite new couples to come and try playing with us. Nancy in the clubhouse can put potential new members in touch with one of our organizing team.
