Welcome to the Commercial League
The Commercial League plays a shotgun medal and match play format on Thursday evenings starting at 5:00 pm. The league consists of 13 teams with 12 teams competing each week. The bye team each week is responsible for the after golf meal for the 48 other golfers (they don’t play that night) in the clubhouse and operate the beverage cart on the course.
Each team captain is responsible for getting 4 golfers each week. Many teams have a number of substitutes available (so a team may consist of 4-7 players). The league also keeps a substitute list in the clubhouse of golfers not associated with a specific team. Each team pays a $30.00 sponsorship fee to the league. League members are responsible for their own greens fee and cart rental.
Before league play begins each golfer pays $3.00 for league play and there is an optional $2.00 split the pot raffle each golf night. The weekly fees fund the league fun night and year end banquet meal. Contributions are also made to the Ely Golf Club from the proceeds.
Weekly League Play: Each league member will have a handicap (Commercial League established). The weekly league play operates on a 9-point system per 2 team match. Each player attempts to match the closest handicap player from the other team. Team A – 5 and 7 handicaps- Team B- 7 and 14 handicaps: Players A play each other and Players B play each other. Handicaps are kept by the league and posted weekly.

- Medal Play 2-man team:
counts for one point (total scores shot less the handicap for each opponent); - Match Play:
counts for 2 points per 2-man match and is head-to-head match play based on the handicap per hole (Example – player A is 5 handicap and player B is 7 handicap.
Player B would get two strokes in medal play and get a stroke on holes # 8 and # 9 based on the leagues own hole by hole handicap system. The maximum differential is 9 or one stroke per hole.
Thus, there are four matches per team per week, with two points per 2-man match.
If a match ties each team gets one point. - Final Point:
9th team point is determined by the net medal scores of all 4 players vs. the net medal score of the opposing teams’ 4-man total.
- Medal Play 2-man team:
Weekly league play starts on holes 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9. Teams are assigned a starting hole randomly each week.
The goal of the Ely Golf Club Commercial League is to have a FUN night of competitive golf each Thursday evening.
